In a bid to mark the 30th birthday of legendary singer Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun popularly known as WizKid,we will be exploring the town where he was born and we hope this article gets you inspired or motivated.
WizKid was born in Shitta, located at the back of the Teslim Balogun Stadium area of Surulere, it is being surrounded by many high-rise buildings, the entrance is being occupied by a big Central Mosque,motor park, tailor shops, provision stores and minimarts. It links Masha road and Akerele Street in the middle.
The buildings are quite old and the area is a slum-like dwelling with dirts on every sides and brown waters in blocked drains.
The community is characterized with seemingly unending buildings, with roads that link many other parts of Surulere. Just like an insect with several arms, Shitta has a multiple entry and exit points.
In one of his interviews, Wizkid had said: “My family are still living in the ghetto, they refuse to move to the Island of Lekki, so I just got them a beautiful apartment somewhere in Ojuelegba.”
It is a crystal clear fact that the singer always give his support to his family and they appreciate his help. But for some reason best known to them, they decided to stay in an old house. Some people were of the opinion that they must have done so because the father was against the musical career of his son. Others revealed that they are modest and decent people and don’t want to show off.
We know that Wizkid and father are quite close. We often hear WizKid mentions his family in his songs. It seems like the parents and son has great family relationships and nothing can put them apart. Fans were so elated when the singer shared a photo of his father. Wizkid even confessed that he wanted to make a tattoo in honor to his father.
Many WizKid fans do not know that on April 9, 2017, Wizkid's father was greatly honoured with the title of religious leader that is called “Mogaji Adinni”. The father was awarded by such title for contribution to Islam and local mosque.
Even after receiving the such highly reverred title, Mr. Balogun stays in an old house.
