#NobodyLikeWomen: The new Challenge Female Celebrities are using to Speak against Female Oppression

Recently, some female Nigerian celebrities initiated a challenge called ' Nobody Like Women Challenge' which involves celebrities sharing some of their pictures on their social media platforms, with some negative inscription written on them. The challenge was first introduced by Nigerian singer, Simi, and has been accepted by other female celebrities and entertainers. Since this new challenge was introduced, the likes of Tonto Dikeh, Temi Otedola, OAP Toolz among others, are among the female Nigerian celebrities that have participated in the challenge.

One may be tempted to ask what 'Nobody Like Women' challenge is all about, and why female Nigerian celebrities are championing this movement. In this article, I will like to shade light on what Nobody Like Women challenge is all about, and why female Nigerian celebrities are participating in it.

Nobody Like Women challenge was introduced by Simi to protest against discrimination and oppression of the female gender. The movement which started making waves on Friday, October 8, is aimed at exposing the diverse ways women are treated and marginalized in their career pursuits and personal lives. The challenge is an idea orchestrated to reveal some of the harsh things that have been said about popular female celebrities. These celebrities participate in this challenge by posting their pictures, usually with a grey background, and then captioning these pictures with some negative things that have been said about them.

In Africa where gender inequality is a pertinent issue, and where females are being marginalized in their respective career pursuit, I think this challenge will help in creating awareness about female segregation, and also create an enabling environment where the female gender will be appreciated and encouraged to also make decisions about themselves, without facing any form of criticism. Seeing how female celebrities have been able to fight through some prevailing circumstances and still excel in their various fields, I think this challenge will go a long way in enlightening people about women capabilities.
