RIP Prince Philip: Check Out 40 Cute Pictures Of The Royal Couple Who Were Married For 73 Years

The whole world was thrown into a frenzy at the news of the death of the Duke Of Edinburgh, Prince Philip. The royal monarch died at age 99 on April 9 in his home, Windsor Castle. Prince Philip was born on June 10, 1921, meaning he was two months short of celebrating his 100 years birthday.

Reports of the Duke's death was made public via the official Twitter account of the Royal Family, when the Queen announced the death of her beloved husband, stating that the Duke passed away peacefully

Though born into a royal family, Prince Philips, was not a citizen of England, he was born into the Greek and Danish royal families. His family was exiled from Greece when he was barely eighteen (18) months old.

Philip and Elizabeth got married in 1947 at age 26 and 22 respectively, and Philip was a military officer for most of his life, but only had to give up his military ambitions at age 31, when Elizabeth became queen in 1952 at age 27. Philip was also made a British Prince in 1957 at 36 years.

The couple have been married for 73 years (1947-2020), and have since been a source of inspiration to many. The Queen is expected to celebrate her 95th birthday on April 21, just 12 days before her husband, prince Philip, passed on to glory. That would have been 74 years wedding celebration for the Royal couple, who would have iced the cake with the Duke's centenary (100 years) achievement.
