Big Brother Naija is arguably the biggest reality show in the country at the moment. The show features twenty housemates who live in a single house for 10 weeks and battle for a grand prize of 85 million naira.
The show has been erroneously and falsely called the best reality show in Nigeria by many commentators. However, this claim is not true as there have been previous reality shows in the past which were better than Big Brother Naija.

The show premiered in 2004. The show was created to show how human can survive under grueling conditions. The contestants are kept in a place in the jungle where they have to battle it out against harsh weather and insects.

The daily tasks were really challenging. The show tested the contestants’ physical, mental and emotional strength. The show’s audition drew a lot of people all over the country who wanted to participate in it.
At the height of the show’s popularity, it organized a celebrity version which featured in a lot of Nigerian celebrities. It is regarded as one of the best reality shows ever to have aired in the country.
After ten years, it was cancelled in 2014.

The show is not just a popular show in Nigeria, but all over the world. The Nigerian version hosted by Frank Edoho was delight to watch every Friday. The show premiered in 2004. The process of appearing on the show was a bit tedious like other shows.
Contestants had to answer series of question before they could be allowed to participate in the show. After being called to the show, they still had to answer a question as fast as possible to be qualified to the final stage – the hot seat.
The successful contestants were invited to the famous hot seat where they had to answer 15 questions correctly to walk home with a grand prize of ten million naira.
It rewarded the contestant for every question that was answered correctly.
It was a show that tested the mental strength and vast knowledge of its contestant. It was a highly rated show that was watched by a lot of people during its reign. It is one of the greatest reality shows in Nigeria.
It was cancelled in 2017.
Maltina Dance Hall
The show was one of the most inclusive reality shows in the country. The show started in 2007. In comparison with other reality shows, the show required families to participate rather than a single contestant.
The objective of each family in the show was to create new, unique choreography every week that must include all the family members.
It was basically a team competition and one of its kinds in Nigeria. Each family either became successful or a failure together. It emphasized on the need of working together to achieve a common goal.
It was really loved in Nigerian homes due to the fact that everyone in the house could relate to it. No member of the family was marginalized and they all contributed to the success of the team.
The show was stopped in 2016. There is no news as to whether it is going to be renewed again.
This reality show was created in 2008. The show was created with the objective of grooming young talented singers in West Africa. It held auditions in different parts of West Africa to select a number of housemates who were to compete for the position of the best singer in West Africa.
It was one of the most popular TV programmes during its run. A lot of people were glued to their station every Sunday to watch the housemates perform. The show witnessed a lot of breathtaking performances from the housemates.
It was a training ground for ordinary Nigerians looking to break into the music industry. The platform provided by the show helped a lot of their graduates achieve their dream of becoming a music superstar.
The biggest stars to have graduated from the show are Chidinma, Praiz, and Iyanya. One of the winners, Ayobami Ayoola, delved into the movie industry instead and is a star actor in the series, Skinny Girls in Transit.
It was cancelled in 2016.
