Instagram Shames Dino Melaye, Says He Is Peddling Fake News.
Former Senator who represented Kogi West in the 8th National Assembly has been shamed by Instagram. The social media platform flagged his recent post as fake.
The controversial former lawmaker had posted a screenshot on his Instagram home page a statement credited to Congolese Naubel Laureate, Dr. Denis Mukwege.
The internationally respected Naubel Laureate holder was alleged to have said he resigned from Congo's COVID-19 team for his refusal to forge COVID-19. The untrue statement reads thus:
The above statement was later found to be fake as the Nobel Peace Prize winner contradicts this via his numerous posts. The contentious statement was first posted on Facebook on June 17 and peddled by millions of people in Africa, and the rest of the world. As at June 25, Dr. Denis' alleged statement had been shared 300 times on Facebook alone.
Dr. Denis is a gynaecologist from Congo who has helped safe lives of thousands of women; mostly victims of armed rebels rapes. And in 2018 Dr. Denis along Nadia Murad was awarded a Nobel Prize for their painstaking efforts to end sexual violence as a means of war and armed conflict.
Permit to say sensitive statement like this is not expected of a former Senator. Undermining the seriousness of the virus will easily put many of his fans at the risk of contacting the virus.
