A lot of Nigerians probably know about the Activist and Afro beats Legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti, who was a composer, a multi-instrumentalist, an activist and The father of Afro beats in Nigeria. Some people regard him as a very great man and for those who have heard his music when he was still alive, can truly say that this man really was the stuff of legend.

His music which is a style of modern music called Afro beats which is a mixture of American blues, jazz, funk and traditional Yoruba music really inspired a lot of musicians nowadays. There is almost no musicians currently singing that has not borrowed a little from Fela's Style. He and his band, the Egyptian 80 really outdid themselves in their day.

What has always surprised me about Fela was his name Anikulapo which literally means “I have death in my pocket” which he gave himself due to him being in and out of prison countless times.

This man has been in prison more time than a normal person should in their life due to his activist's roles and his music which is always talks about the injustice and oppression of the military government of his time. But he always got out which means the name suits him quite well.

In this article, I'm going to be showing you a throwback photo of Music legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and Literary icon Prof. Chinua Achebe in the UK in the 1980s.

Check Out these African Legends.
