In an industry which has always been dominated by models with stick thin models who can only represent a really really small percentage of the population, it's really beautiful to see plus sized models making it in the industry.
Philomena Kwao is one of those plus sized model. She is a British/Ghanaian model, she was born on the 2nd of October 1989 in the city of London, England to Ghanaian parents. She studied International health management at the Imperial college London.
Philomena rose to fame in 2012 after her pictures was sent by a friend to Models 1 In a modeling is search. She became the face of Torrid - A trending clothing line at the start of her modeling career and this was what shot her to fame.
Apart from just being a model, she is a strong human rights advocator and feels really strongly about making black people fall in love with the skin they are in. She owns a charity endeavor called “Lily project" where boys and girls ask questions online on issues that are bothering them and mentors answer their questions. When asked why she started this project, she told a story of a girl she had an interaction with on tumblr. The girl was curious to know how she has learnt to live her black skin, stating that she had tried every kind of bleachers product and nothing seems to be working, stating that she is about to try an injection to make her skin lighter. According to her, the girls story reminded her of her former self and she felt touched by it.
