Opinion: Nollywood Celebrities should not call out Teachers online.

Actress Mercy Johnson Okojie has called out a teacher on Instagram for bullying her daughter in school. In recent times, the act of dragging teachers is gradually becoming a norm among Nollywood actresses.

Amongst other allegations, Mercy Johnson accused the teacher of transferring hatred and aggression to her daughter without any justification. She also noted that the general belief that children of celebrities are spoilt is unfounded.

Recall that actress Toyin Lawani did the same thing on February 6, 2021 when she called out Tenor's class teacher on Instagram for pulling his son's ears. She also threatened to deal with the teacher at the time.

The trend is becoming worrisome among Nigerian celebrities. Last year, actress Grace Amah wrote the following on her Instagram page on December 14, 2020; "Any teacher that separates my child in school for fighting will hear from me and my ancestors."

Normally, It Is not fair to call out people on social media if there are different channels to address the grievances online. The fact that this is done against teachers made it worse.

It is very easy for celebrities to engage in cyber-bullying and online intimidation with their large fan base on social media. This is one of the reasons why nollywood celebrities need to be careful before dragging anybody online.

It is common knowledge that teachers are not accorded their due respect in our society. The act of threatening teachers publicly and setting them up for dragging should not be encouraged at all.

In order to correct the general belief that celebrities are haughty, I urge Nigerian actresses to seek redress offline rather than subjecting teachers to ridicule online.

Although the lady who accused Mercy Johnson wrongly has apologized, the act of dragging teachers online should be stopped.
