The Nigerian entertainment space is gradually becoming global, from Wizkid dominating UK. charts to having international superstars like 6lack praise his album. News recently had it that Burna Boy would be performing at the Grammy awards, days after Justin Bieber featured him in his forthcoming album.
The good news is that all this international exposure brings a lot of people to notice Nigerian artistes, especially the next generation. Young artistes like Fireboy, Rema, Omah Lay, Oxlade, Bella Shmurda, Joeboy, Wurld, Chike and so much more will be the main focus in a few years time.
Recently, Bella released the video for his hit song 'Rush', a song which passed a message about how everyone is equal before death, with lines like, "las las everybody go pia" meaning everyone will die despite life been 50/50 to be rich or poor.
However, the video has been released and it had a lot of criticism due to the fact that it had many nudity in it. A lot of people are of the opinion that he lowered the standard of women by having them go almost naked. Considering, Nigerians love morality, this was to be expected.
Although, there are others that counter argued that the same people criticizing Bella, are the same people that love and appreciate Nicki and Cardi for doing the same.
It brings to mind the question if morality is relative or universal, and if it is universal, surely you cannot praise Cardi and Nicki and criticize Bella Shmurda.
Which side are you on?
Do you believe it is generally wrong or it is wrong because it is a Nigerian artiste that did it?
