Do You Know The Name Or Usefulness Of the Tiny Pocket On Jeans Trousers?

There are many objects that we always see in our vicinity in our day-to-day activities which have the actual purpose they serve it if which we have missed out this and given it to another thing entirely.

This may be due to its obsoleteness or our ignorance for the purpose they were originally made to serve.

A very good example is that of the ring-like object on top of Can-Drinks, but not many people know that it is meant to hold the straw for easy drinking.

But, the object of discussion here is the tiny pocket often found on our jean trousers. I am very sure that many people would not knjwnits name , not to talk of its usefulness.

What is its correct name?

Actually, its correct name is watch pocket. Though , in some other places, they call it match pocket or ticket pockets.

What is its usefulness?

The answers supplied by many people who were asked, clearly show that many people do not know the purpose the pocket serves, they only use it for what appealed to their sense that match it.

I could remember a guy that told me that is used to keep and hide 'condom', may be that is what he uses it for. Another set if people said it is used to keep money especially when you have no much money in you, and you don't want the one with you taken by your friends or younger one.

Some even said it is often used by those that cheat on their partner to keep their wedding ring.

However, the actual, real and original usefulness of this tiny pocket is to hold pocket watches which are almost no longer in use but some jeans till today, often come with the pocket.

Historically, in the late 1800s the small pocket is actually called a watch pocket because it was originally intended as a safe place for men to store their pocket watches. It dates back to Levi's first ever pair of jeans, which hit the market in 1879.

Do you have any other contrary opinions apart from those discussed above? Feel free to make your contributions and educate others.
