October 1st is a significant day in Nigeria, and Africa at large. It was on this day in 1960, that Nigeria gained its freedom from Colonial rule. For 61 years, Nigeria has lived freely under its own rule. This day of Independence for our great nation is filled with fun, merriment, and jubilation.
However, since people are born on almost any day of the year, some Nigerian celebrities have the privilege to be born on October 1st, the day Nigeria gained its independence.

Nigerian-born British actor, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, was born in Lagos in 1962, as Nigeria was celebrating its second independence. He is best known for his portrayal of Georges Rutuganda in the 2004 film, Hotel Rwanda.

4. Sonia Ogiri
Sonia Ogiri is a Nigerian actress, and musician, who was born on independence day. She had featured in movies like "Okon's Wedding", "Cry With Me", among others.
5. Yemisi Fancy
Yemisi Fancy is a Nigerian singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born in Lagos, on October 1st, 1991. The singer in 2012, landed herself a role in the Tinsel TV series, where she played the role of Helen. She is however an Afrobeat, Rn'B, and Fuji musician.
