Here are six celebrities with flourishing side hustles


Being a celebrity in the Nigerian entertainment industry is no easy feat. It always comes with the expectations of wealth and a very lavish lifestyle. Also, In an unfavourable economic situations like Nigeria’s, celebrities are faced with taxes and losses from piracies, usually needed to diversify sources of income to keep up their life of glamour.

Below are some Nigerian celebrities and their successful side hustles:


Iyabo Ojo

She is not only a creative actress and producer in Nollywood, she is a mother of two, she also owns one of the most popular Amala (yam flour) spots in the intellectual area of Lekki, Lagos.

The restaurant and lounge, opened in September 2017, continues to gain patronage, even with the challenges faced by Iyabo Ojo a year after opening due to the taxes and bills threatening to close down the business. Iyabo Ojo also owns a well-patronised spa and skincare shop in the same location.


Ayo Makun

Popularly known as AY, the comedian. Though he makes a lot of money from his comedy shows and movies, but he also owns a non-smoking luxurious premium club. The club was Launched in April 2014, situated at the heart of Lekki, Lagos. Which occupies a penthouse floor at a mall in Lekki Phase 1.


Mercy Aigbe

The light-skinned beauty is a household name in the Nigerian Movie industry. Moreover, her success is not just to be seen on screen, she also owns a prospering boutique with two branches in Lagos and Ibadan, as well as fabrics store.

Her Fabric store is an online business catering mainly for Owambe(different parties) uniforms like Ankara, Lace and many other types of Fabric.


Genevieve Nnaji

This celebrity and role model of many teenager was the creative producer of the Netflix Movie, Lion Heart, which has gave her mark in Nollywood in a very big way. Her career in the movie industry is not just her only source of income. She owns a clothing line named St. Genevieve, which acts as another means of income for her. While the female line had challenges in the beginning, it became stronger and firmer in 2014 as she secured partnership with Jumia.


Aremu Afolayan

One of the Afolayan siblings in the Nollywood film industry, Aremu makes waves alongside siblings ― Kunle, Moji, and Gabriel.

However, the actor who has always expressed his passion for business owns an automobile business situated in the heart of Magodo, Lagos. The business provides a wide range of exotic cars or different brands.


Yemi Alade

Also known as Mama Africa, Yemi Alade stands as one of the most awarded songstresses in the country, with both national and international recognitions. The Yoruba-Igbo girl, as she calls herself, also has her hands in the jewellery business. In partnership with online jewellery retailer, Band2glam, she unveiled her range of exotic African culture-inspired jewellery pieces in November 2015.
