Meet The 6 Nigerian Artistes That Have Won Mobo Award

MOBO is an acronym that means Music of Black Origin. Mobo award is an award that's presented to black music artistes from different parts of the world, the award ceremony is usually hosted at United Kingdom annually. Over the years, some Nigerian music artistes have made Nigerians proud by winning Mobo award, i will be writing about those artistes in this article.

1. 9ICE

After releasing his sophomore album which is titled "Gonga Aso" in 2008, 9ice won several music awards locally and internationally, one of the award 9ice won was Best African Artiste at 2008 Mobo Award.

Davido is undoubtedly one of the most hardworking music artiste in Africa, the young Nigerian singer has had an illustrious career so far. Davido has won most music awards that African artistes are eligible to win, he was presented with Best African Artiste award at 2017 Mobo Award.

Oladapo Daniel Oyebanjo who is professionally known as D'banj is one of the first Nigerian artiste to make Nigerian music popular internationally, he was signed by Kanye West's record label in 2011, he also featured the popular American rapper on the remix of his song. D'banj won best African Artiste category at 2012 edition of Mobo Award.

Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu who is popularly known as Burna Boy is currently one of the biggest artiste in Africa, he has achieved tremendous success since 2017 after he was signed by Atlantic Records. Despite being nominated alongside international artistes like Cardi B, Popcaan, Drake and The Weekend, Burna Boy emerged as the best International Artiste winner at 2020 Mobo Award.

2face Idibia is a legend in the Nigerian music industry, he has been releasing hit songs for over twenty years. 2face Idibia is the first Nigerian artiste to win a Mobo Award, he won the award in 2007, he mistakenly broke his Mobo Award on stage when he was celebrating with D'banj.

Wizkid is the Nigerian artiste that has won the most number of Mobo Award, he was given an award for Best African Artiste in 2011 and 2020. In 2017, Wizkid became the first Nigerian artiste to win the Best International Artiste category of Mobo Award.
