Akunna Finishes Third-Place In The Nigerian Idol Competition

Yesterday's Nigerian Idol live show was something to remember.

The top 8 contestants previously evicted were in attendance.

They opened the show with a group performance of '24k Magic' by Bruno Mars.

Then the big question was, who among the top 3 finalists (Kingdom, Akunna and Francis) would make it to the top 2?

Along the line, Kingdom survived eviction. The remaining two contestants waited for the week's votes to decide their fate.

Unfortunately, the last woman standing, Akunna, lost to Francis.

It must have been quite a sad moment for her fans.

As the talented 23-year-old lady has given viewers a number of memorable performances in the course of the competition.

Some of her standout performances include 'Wrecking Ball' and the most memorable 'Loving Your Way' by Seyi Shay.

If you recall, the latter earned her lots of praises from the judges.

Even DJ Sose jokingly remarked afterwards that she sang it better than the original singer Seyi, who also admitted it while laughing.

There's no doubt that Akunna came fully prepared for the Nigerian Idol competition.

In the past few weeks, she outdid herself in every performance.

And that is, coming on stage each Sunday battle-ready.

Even on a particular occasion when she had a cracked voice. That happened during her 'Joromi' performance weeks ago. Notwithstanding, she pulled through with confidence and it saw her through to the next round. I thought that was one of her best moments.

The Abia state-born star definitely deserved her long stay in the competition, finishing at third place.

She said in her farewell speech, I want to say thank you to team Akunna. Don't feel bad because to even be here is a lifetime opportunity. I'm leaving like a Queen in my head."

The young lawyer also added, "it's not easy transitioning from the courtroom to the stage. I'm so proud of myself."

Afterwards, she was given the final honour of gracing the stage with a rendition.

We thought we had heard the best from Akunna since the beginning of the competition, but that final performance convinced us more than ever that she was born to sing.

She gave a soulful delivery of Adele's 'Set Fire To The Rain'.

Remember it was her song choice two weeks ago at the top 5 stage of the competition.

We look forward to seeing greater things from this amazing talent.
