Photos: 3 Things You Probably Did Not Know About Popular Conjoined Twins, Abby And Brittany

Around the world, It is estimated that 1 in every 50,000 to 60,000 twins born annually are conjoined. Abby and Brittany Hensel are siamese (or conjoined) twins whose story has inspired a lot of people around the world. They were both born in March 1990 to Patty (their mother) and Mike Hensel (their father). Here are 3 things you may not know about them.

1. When they were born, their parents refused to surgically separate the them because of the risks that were involved. Despite the fact that they are conjoined, they both have separate hearts, spines, stomach and spinal cord. Abby controls one arm, while Brittany controls the other and they co-operate with each other when it comes to activities like, walking and driving a car.

2. They are one of the most popular twins in the world and have appeared in several times in various forms of media and talkshows like The Oprah Winfrey show. They even had their own reality television show titled, "Abby & Brittany" which debuted in 2012. The show had about 8 episodes.

3. Despite their condition, they are well educated and proud alumnus of Bethel University, Minnesota, USA. Abby and Brittany are currently fifth grade teachers at Sunnyside Elementary school, Minnesota.
