Shodimu early life started in Abeokuta at the palace of Alake of Egbaland where he was learnt much about Yoruba culture.
He holds 2 degrees, BA (Theatre Arts) and Msc.(Mass Communication) from the then University of Ife, now Obafemi Awolowo University, OAU, and University of Lagos, UNILAG respectively.
Yoruba actor cum broadcaster, Shodimu started out as a backup singer. He was a backup singer to popular Juju Music Legend, Chief Ebenezer Obey Fabiyi, MFR. He was quite young then. He backed up for Obey in the early 70s. This was before he delved into acting in 1976, when he ran into the cast of the rested Village Headmaster at a rehearsal at the National Theatre, Iganmu Lagos. When he approached the crew, and he was welcomed to join the group.
Today, the Ogun State-born Shodimu has featured in several award-winning films like Oleku, Olewu, Saworode, Agogo Ewo and many others. He is also a former special adviser to ex-Ogun State governor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel.
Shodimu is married and lives in Lagos with his family.
Another talented thespian, Yemi Solade was also born on 31st of January 1960, Yemi Solade was bred in Lagos state. He attended St. Thomas Aquilla Primary School and Birch Freeman Secondary school, both in surulere. He went further to the U.K to get his A’ levels at the Tyhill College in Coventry, but never got to finish up.
He came back to Nigeria and continued his education in Oyo State College of Arts and Science, OSCAS, to prepare for university. It was during this time he met great men such as Damola Aderemi, Niyi Ayoade, and the publisher of Ovation Magazine, Dele Momodu, who is also an Alumnus of OAU. After his college degree, he continued in Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) to study Dramatic Arts after being a disco dancer for some time.
After his education, he went into the academic. During his national youth service NYSC, he taught at he university of Maiduguri and at Rama Polytecnic where he taught General studies, communication skills and literature. He later moved to Kaduna polytechnic where he taught literature and communication skills. He’s one of the rare ones with three masters degree in Public administration, another in sociology at the university of Leicester and another in international relations and he did all these for survival as at that time no one could employ a dramatic artist.
During his time in the north, he also got married, which was actually his first marriage and it was to a Shuarab charming girl in Maiduguri. The marriage failed because the parents of the bride wanted to Islamize him, a plan that didn’t work as he totally refused and broke out of the marriage.
He returned to Lagos and started his acting career. The actor has done several movies some of which are Shadows, Thunderbolt, Lady in the forest, Madam Dearest, Mr. Gabriel, Super story which is a telenovella, and many more Yoruba movies.
Yemi Solade is presently in his third marriage to Hannah Solade, a Cross Rivers half-caste woman. And yes, his third as his second marriage crashed due to circumstances that were beyond his control. He is blessed with two kids, a girl and boy named Rola and Femi Solade and he prays to remain married as he has promised his wife that she is his bus stop where marriage is concerned.
He calls himself a chattered actor as he has gone to the length and breadth to ensure that he is professionally trained for the craft he loves and practice with passion.
