1. Makossa
Makossa is a noted Cameroonian popular urban musical style. Like much other late 20th century music of Sub-Saharan Africa, it uses strong electric bass rhythms and prominent brass .
Makossa, which means "(I) dance" in the Douala language, originated from a Douala dance called the kossa. Artist like Awilo Longomba toured the internet with his massive hit song and everywhere he went, makossa became a wave, and a vibe in Nigeria.
2. Galala
Galala is a dance form popular in Lagos, Nigeria developed by local reggae musicians.
This Galala dance style is said to have been popularized in the 90's by Daddy Showkey, popular for his pseudo-reggae music.
3. Suo
After Daddy Showkey Galala reigned, then comes the Sup from the same ghetto in ajengule, Lagos State.
The most popular vehicle for the dance was Marvellous Benjy ’s “Suo” which was a massive hit at that period. The duo of Mad Melon and Mountain Black, known as the Danfo Drivers , also popularized the dance step
4. Alanta
Alanta Dance is an original Nigerian dance. Like most African dances, it requires vigorous hand, hips and leg movements.
The dance style uses a patterned movement of the hands as if fanning flames while raising one leg. This dance shows the rich creativity and humour of the Nigerian people. Terry G, was the artist that promoted this dance step.
5. Yahooze
Yahooze " is a song by Nigerian recording artist Olu Maintain. It was produced by Puffy Tee and officially released on October 27, 2007, as the lead single from his debut album of the same name.
The music video for "Yahooze" was shot in Nigeria. The official remix features guest vocals from Nigerian recording artistLKT.
"Yahooze" won Hottest Single of the Year at the 2008 Nigeria Entertainment Awards .
6. Azonto
Azonto is a dance and music genre from Ghana. ... Just like most African dances, Azonto involves knee bending and hip movements.
The dance has effectively evolved from a few basic moves to miming actions such as ironing of clothes, washing, driving, boxing, praying, swimming, and others.
Ghanaian rapper and multiple-award winner Sarkodie has claimed to be the originator of the popular controversial Azonto slang and dance.
7. Etighi
Etighi is a Nigerian dance. The etighi dance was founded by the Akwa Ibom people. The dance requires movement of the leg and the waist.
The dance is known across Nigeria and popularly used by the Ibibio and Efik people where its origin began, it became popular when Iyanya; who is from this region released the video for hit single, kukere in 2012.
8. Skelewu
dance that comes from the song of a Nigerian singer, Davido.
The song was released in 2013 and popularized by a dance competition sponsored by the singer and endorsed by two Nigerian soccer players (Emmanuel Adebayor and Samuel Eto'o).
9. Shoki
Shoki which is a Yoruba slang for getting down with the opposite sex or in one word 'quickie' has since its inception gone round like wildfire. Cutting across all tribes in Nigeria.
In 2014, Lil kesh popularized Shokk when he released hit hit song Shoki.
10. Sekem
MC Galaxy currently runs his own record label, MCG Entertainment. On 19 March 2014 he released his first single, "Sekem", under his label MCG Entertainment.
A music video for the song, directed by Patrick Ellis, was released on 23 June 2014. The video went on to achieve over 4 million views on YouTube and a remix was released 2 years later featuring Swizz Beatz.
11. Shakiti Bobo
"Bobo" is a song by Nigerian rapper and recording artist Olamide off his fifth studio album.""Bobo" was met with positive reviews among music critics and massive airplay. With a view of promoting the song, a dance style called "Shakiti Bobo" was named after the song.
Ola Bolaji of Nigerian Entertainment Today described the song as a combination of "rap and poetry" and further went on to state that: "This song obviously goes beyond the leg jumping to meet the hand rhythmic dance steps.
12. Shaku Shaku
Shaku Shaku dance is a street dance. The dance steps are like the steps of a drunk person or someone who has smoked copious amounts of weed. It was invented by the popular musician " Olamide".
It is done by stretching out the arm and crossing them over each other in front with the legs widened out and launching into a graceful half-galloping.
13. Zanku
A new, energetic dance that has taken the Nigerian social life by the storm. It involves the asynchronous thumping of the feet on the ground and eventual kick out to complete the steps.
It originated from Nigerian musician Zlatan Ibile's Zanku (Leg Work) music track.
