Cynthia Onyedinmanasu Chinasaokwu Erivo was born 8 January 1987 in Stockwell, London to Nigerian parents. She is a English singer, song writer and actress.
She started her acting career in a 2011 stage production of The umbrella if Cherbourg and had her first screen role in the British television series Chewing gum.
She's known for her lead roles in the musicals os Sister Act, in the West end, and the color purple, in the West end and on Broadway. Roles which earned her a best actress Tony Award, then the cast recording of the soundtrack won her a Grammy.
She's the only black actor nominated in the acting categories for the 2020 Oscars. The actress is nominated for best performance by an actress in a leading role for her outstanding performance as "Harriet Tubman" in the Harriet movie. She also has a second Oscar nomination for best original song for "Stand up" a song she co-wrote and performed for the film.

She's currently coming in the HBO series The outsiders as Holly Gibney. And even if the "Harriet Tubman" rope doesn't get her an Oscar, the future is definitely looking bright.
