There is something about good music, if you don't even understand what the language in the lyrics, it's interpretation may still transcend into the soul, may be that is why some genres are called Soul Music.
One of the best musicians to come of out of Africa is Awilo Longomba, even though he is from Congo, his music travelled all around the world. One thing I know is that he loves Nigeria and Nigerians love him too, so much that Nollywood made some movies titled Awilo.
The 58 year old who is still very active made us dance makossa with his Coupe Bibamba hit track that was released in the year 1998. The appropriate dance to this music is Makossa, a dance step which you move your waist to mostly.
He is very conversant with Nigeria and he performed here, inspiring many artists. He may be 58 but he doesn't look it and he remains flamboyant.
He started has a drummer, something he's still got within him but he switched into singing professionally in 1995.
He is an excellent live performer and Coupe Bibamba was the CD that brought about his large international audience.
He has released tracks with Nigerian musicians like P Square, Tiwa Savage, Olamide and Yemi Alade.
