Some Igbo Male Names And Definition

The Igbo word "Di" does not literally meanshusband,the word Di goes beyond that.

"Di" actually in the literal sense means master or Lord thus in the Igbo dispensation and understanding of the family,the husband or "Dianyi" is both the master of the home and a master over his wives.

In this dispensation "Di" can be used in other words such as:

Dinwenu which means (Master that owns heaven and Lord's)

Dianyi which means (our master used for father,older brother or elder)

Dinta which means (master of the hunt)

Duiru which is Di and iru (master of prosperity)

Diali which means Master of the Land (a son of the soil with full land rights and right to ownership of land)

Dike which means Master of Strength (for warriors)

Dimkpa which means Master of Importance (when a young man grows up to the age of importance of providing for the family and protecting the family

Dibia which is Di and Ibia,which simply means master of divination

Diabia which means wand which the diviners used as part of their oracle consultation rituals.

Diochi which means Master wine maker or palm wine tapper

Dimgba which means Master of all Wrestler's

Diokpara or Diokpa which means first son's or men of seniority

Note: Okpaor Okpara has a similar etymology with Nkpara,which simply means The Staff of Authority,in gerontocracy igbo society staff of authority was passed in order of seniority to the "Otochara",which means first born.

Thus Diopka or Diokpara means master of authority.
