Mr adegbite stood right in front of us, he looked at us for a while, not saying anything. His only daughter and his favorite student, together in his daughter's room, alone and sweaty.
When he finally talked he said "I was told but I didn't believe it till I saw it with my own eyes. Jaiye, I trusted you with my daughter. I thought my daughter would not be able to cope with an adult tutor so I decided to get her a tutor her age. I didn't know that I was going to end up regretting it. Get out of my house right now" I got my things and I left. Tomi was already crying before I left. I just hoped she was going to be okay. I realized that him coming back again was not a coincidence, someone told him and that someone was her ex.
I went home and I tried calling her but her line wasn't reachable. I couldn't even think straight. Night came and I couldn't eating or sleep. I kept praying and hoping that she was okay.
Around 4am, my phone started ringing. It was an unknown number. I picked and I heard Tomi's voice. It was shaking and she sounded like she was still crying. She said she didn't have much time, she apologized for everything and I tried to comfort her by saying it wasn't her fault. She told me that no matter what happens, she would always love me and I should never forget that before the call ended abruptly. I tried calling again but I couldn't reach her. I started crying, I didn't know what to do.
2 weeks later
2 weeks had already passed, I didn't see or hear from her. I was very worried, I couldn't even think straight. I couldn't concentrate in school and teachers noticed and they were already talking about it. My principal didn't make me suffer. He just stopped talking to me. He stopped being friendly to me.
It was Monday, the beginning of the third week without Tomi, a junior came to meet me. She was holding a letter in her hand and she said she was told to deliver it to me. When she handed it over, I opened the letter and I realized it was from Tomi.
It read :
"Jaiye, I'm really sorry for everything that happened. I'm sorry you had to go through all that. To make it up to you, there's a surprise waiting for you at the arcade."
With love, from Tomi.
I went to the arcade immediately after school. I looked around till I saw a white package on a table. I saw a letter beside it too, I decided to open the letter before opening the gift. The letter read "Jaiye, I hope you like your gift. My father arranged for me to travel abroad and study over there, with my mother. He believes this is the only way to break our relationship. I don't want to leave you but I don't have a choice. I really hate that you had to find our like this. Till we meet again... Jaiye."
I couldn't believe my eyes. I sat on the floor and I started crying. Tomi was gone. My first true love, gone like the wind.
A week later, I opened the package and I saw a necklace. A silver necklace with a half heart pendant. Beside it was a small note which said "I love you"
