See What Will Happen To This Music Legend If Convicted Of The Serious Offence

Robert Sylvester Kelly (born January 8, 1967) is an American singer, songwriter, musician, record producer, actor and former semi-professional basketball player from Illinois.

He has been credited with helping to redefine R&B and hip hop , earning nicknames such as "the

King of R&B ", "the King of Pop-Soul", and the "Pied Piper of R&B"

Kelly is known for songs including " I Believe I Can Fly ", " Bump N' Grind", " Your Body's Callin' ", " Gotham City ", " Ignition (Remix) ", " If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time ", " The World's Greatest ", " I'm a Flirt (Remix) ", and the

hip-hopera " Trapped in the Closet".

In 1998, Kelly won three Grammy Awards for " I Believe I Can fly"

He is currently facing multiple state and federal charges in the US, with accusations including sexual assault, abuse of a minor, making indecent images of minors, racketeering and obstruction of justice.

The 53-year-old has consistently denied the claims.

The singer, who faces anywhere from 10 years to life in prison if convicted on the federal charges, has tried several times to earn pre-trial release, once in September 2019 citing hardships of incarceration -- including only being allowed to see one of his two live-in girlfriends at a time -- and then citing the spike in COVID infections and illnesses at the correctional institution where he is being held.

The first request was denied in October 2019 after a judge said Kelly presented a flight risk and could potentially tamper with witnesses.

Cook County Judge Lawrence Flood, who is presiding over the state's case against Kelly, has set a tentative date of Sept. 14 2020 for Kelly to be tried.

In another development, Mike Leonard, who also represents Kelly, said the singer is in very good spirits but "disappointed" the case is not going to trial sooner. Kelly remains jailed without bond at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Chicago.
