Mr Inibehe Effiong, a lawyer and human rights activist, on Friday blasted the State Security Services (SSS) for involving itself in the drama between Nollywood actress Tonto Dikeh and her ex-lover and politician Prince Joseph Kpokpogri.
In a statement on Twitter, Mr Effiong wondered how the matter concerned the SSS, adding that the agency “continues to make itself an object of ridicule”.
The lawyer wrote on 24 September: “I’m still trying to understand the basis for the intervention of the State Security Service (SSS) in the quarrel between estranged lovers. Our institutions are devoid of self-respect. How does this case affect state security? SSS continues to make itself an object of ridicule.”

The tweet comes after Prince Kpokpogri dragged the actress and the SSS before a Federal High Court in Abuja, seeking a N10 billion compensation for “the mental trauma, emotional stress and severe damage” caused to him after he was invited by the SSS.
In the case dated 20 September 2021 and filed with suit number FHC/ABJ/CS/1092/2021, Prince Kpokpogri prayed the court to bar the SSS from further inviting him.
The suit reads in part: “An order directing the Respondents jointly and severally to pay the Applicant the sum of N10,000,000,000 (Ten Billion Naira) as compensation for the mental trauma, emotional stress and severe damage caused the Applicant due to the invitation extended to him through telephone call and a text message on Thursday, 16th September 2021 by FCT Command of the Department of State Services (DSS) with office at No. 7, Gamal Abdel-Nasser Street, Off Julius Nyerere Crescent, Near Kapital Klub and Apartments, Asokoro, FCT-Abuja being under the supervision and control of the 1st Respondent [Director-General of SSS] in connection with an estranged romantic relationship between the Applicant and 2nd Respondent [Tonto Dikeh] which the 1st Respondent knows is civil in nature.”
