*Over the years many dance trends have come and gone Here is a recap on what dance used to be like.
Alanta is a comical dance move which was produced by the "Artquake".
It involved a crazy movement of the arms and legs in an alternate manner which is accompanied with a crazy facial expressions which sometimes involved sticking your tongue out. The dance is completed with beating of an imaginary drum on the stomach.
The dance is still found hilarious by many and still bring memories of the old days.
Azonto is one dance trend that gained a wide acceptance.
The Dance followed a song released on the 27th of Oct 2011. It was produced by Ghanaian singer Fuse ODG featuring Tiffany. But this didn't get much audience until it was freestyled to by our very own Starboy- Wizkid. After that the song gained large audience and the freestyle version became more popular than the original version.
Etighi was a dance which had a short period of stay but very high energy when it was first released.
It was featured in a song titles Kukere by Iyanya which was released in 2012 and it originates from where he comes from- Calabar/Akwa Ibom
Thou not trendy again, Etighi is still used in many dance movement as well as dance routines.
The Omo Baba Olowo of our time Davido also shocked everyone when he released his Hit single Skelewu which Hit the airways and gained huge recognition but locally and internationally. The song also featured a dance which is just as catchy as the song.
The song that was produced on Aug 18, 2013, had one of its finest moment when it was played at the half time of the Spanish La Liga match
Shoki was produced in 2014 though it had some issues about who the real Owner of the dance as there were three characters who claimed to have started the dance. They are
But Lil Kesh in 2014 Lil Kesh gave himself and the Dance publicity with the release of the single Shoki
Created, Produced, Refined, Killed and Perfected by the King of the Street himself OLAMIDE BADDO in 2015. The song Shakiti Bobo was a single which was a Massive and Explosive hit everywhere.
The song didn't come alone to the public, as the song blew it brought along with it a very catchy dance style with made its way into Clubs and even Churches.
Shaku Shaku became popular in the closing of the year 2016 and it had lot of controversies over where the dance originated from. It also was easy to learn and gained attention when professional dancers and airtist modified it.
Another version of it called Reverse Shaku Shaku also gain popularity.
Some even said it stated that it had been around for 2 year and counting in parts like Agege
Due to the invention of the dance trends some airtist like "Mr Real" and "Slimcase" became very popular with there song "Legbegbe" by "Mr Real" and "Shepeteri" by " Slimcase" as they produced beats that matched with the trend.
Another major hit was WO by Olamide
Zanku was brought about by Zlatan Ibile. It was invented in 2018 and has been promoted in songs like Able God, featuring Zlatan, Chinko Ekun and Lil kesh as well as Killin Dem by Burna Boy and many others.
It involves plenty of ten-ten like foot marches and karate-like jump kicks which we like to call 'Gbese'
Over all Zlatan has been the major influencer brings new styles of the Zanku Dance.
Invented by the King himself, Poco Lee, Poco dance is a modification of the very popular Zanku and very soon became even more popular.
Thou it is somehow difficult to learn it is an amazing dance trend which is till been danced to.
Later on a beat was released which was considered just perfect for the dance. The song was titled Poco Dance - Carved from the dance it's self. Other beat have also been released that go well with this dance.
Sekem was a Hit Track that came out of the blue. It was a song that was produced by MC Galaxy. And just like WO it came with a dance which was fun to watch and very easy to learn.
The simplicity of the dance is what gave it so much audience. All the dance entailed was to put one hand on your chest, stretch the other hand to the side and slid your shoe in a continuous pattern so as to move to one side.
The only down side to the dance steps was that it would cost one a lot of footwears.
