Lessons Nigerian Men Should Learn From Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala's Husband

At the moment, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala is one of the most celebrated personalities on the social media space, she was on the 15th of February appointed the Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO).

Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, DG WTO.

Her appointment is highly remarkable and it has made a lot of Nigerians so proud of her because in the 73 years of GATT and WTO existence, she is the first woman and the first African to attain such a high ranking position.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala is not just an international woman of higher repute but she's also a wife and a mother which brings me to a quote that says behind every successful woman, there is a great man.

Dr Okonjo and her husband, Ikemba Iweala.

A man who allowed his wife to further her education, he allowed his wife to pursue her career without limit, a man who didn't feel threatened with his wife success,he allowed her to attend meetings, seminars, and days of official trips.

He didn't care about who does the house chores and cooking, he trusted his wife and allowed her pursue her career dreams without relegating her to the background.

Dr Okonjo-Iweala wouldn't have achieved this great feat if she didn't have a supportive and, understanding husband, so as we celebrate her let us not also forget to give her husband, Mr Ikemba Iweala some accolades.

Mr Ikemba Iweala.

Most Nigerian men believes a successful career woman is not what you tag a good wife material because while pursuing a career, the home front will suffer.

The mindset is that a woman's place is only to bear children and take care of the home front. Not every man can handle a woman's growth beyond the kitchen and the bedroom.

Nigerian men should take a que and learn from Dr Okonjo-Iweala's husband, give your woman the necessary support, push her to pursue her dreams, encourage and support her to become a better version of herself, because she is a woman, a wife and a mother doesn't means her dreams will remain stagnant.

To young girls who grew up believing they can't develop themselves except to be wives and mothers, do not allow this mindset limit your potentials, you can still be a wife, a mom while developing your potentials.

To men who are part of the my wife cannot be successful than me gang, wake up, the world is changing.
