Actor Adekola Tijani Reveals Last Conversation With Murphy Afolabi

Nollywood actor, Adekola Tijani has revealed his last conversation with his late friend and colleague, Murphy Afolabi.

He made this known in an interview with Goldmyne TV during Afolabi’s funeral on Monday evening.

Tijani claimed that he had no idea Afolabi was predicting his death when he sent his quota for their monetary contribution ahead of schedule.

He said in Yoruba language, “I still called him yesterday (Sunday)when he sent money for a contribution we always do on Sundays, he sent it early and I questioned his decision to send it early. 

"His response was we don’t know what will happen the next day or in the next minute. I didn’t know he was bidding me farewell. 

‘’He called me after his birthday so that I could come and take some of the clothes he used for his birthday shoot. I told him not to worry but I didn’t know he was passing a message across to me."

Murphy Afolabi was said to have fallen in the bathroom at his house in Ikorodu, Lagos, on Sunday morning, May 14.

INEC swears in new REC for FCT

The Independent National Electoral Commission on Tuesday swore in a reappointed Resident Electoral Commissioner, Mahmuda Isah, for a second and final term.

This was contained in a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, Rotimi Oyekanmi.

Isah has been deployed to the Federal Capital Territory after serving Jigawa and Kaduna States.

“Isah, who holds a PhD in Petroleum Law was first appointed in Jan 2018 and he served in both Jigawa and Kaduna States before his first term expired in Jan 2023. He has been deployed to the Federal Capital Territory,” the statement read.

Rotimi added, “Isah took his oath of office during the Commission’s weekly meeting, which has the INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, National Commissioners, and the Secretary to the Commission in attendance.

“Prof. Yakubu told him to be loyal to the Nigerian people and always abide by the provisions of the law.”

Gunmen kill 29 in Plateau villages

Gunmen have attacked two villages in Plateau State and killed no fewer than 20 persons.

The killings, it was gathered, occurred on Monday night around 9 pm.

The affected villages were Kubwat and Fungzai in the Mangu Local Government Area of the state.

A resident of Fungzai community who witnessed the attacks, John Yakubu, confirmed the attacks to The PUNCH in Jos on Tuesday.

Yakubu said that in Fungzai community alone, the gunmen killed 15 persons including the wife of his younger brother and her children while a total of 29 corpses had been recovered

Yakubu said, “It was last night, the gunmen arrived in large numbers and started shooting. The panicky villagers started running but unknown to them, other gunmen laid ambush and shot at those trying to run away. As I’m talking to you, I am in Fungzai village. The attackers killed 15 persons here(Fungzai) including the wife and children of my younger brother last night.

“They also attacked Kubwat, a neighbouring village. So far, we have recovered a total of 29 corpses including women and children. We are in pain.”

The spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, Alabo Alfred did not pick up his calls when contacted on the incident but security sources said that operatives had been deployed to the affected villages.

Kidnapper attempting to shoot victim kills gang member

The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers — Idris Abdullahi, Tukur Yusuf and Ilyasu Aminu — for attempting to kidnap a man and his son in Yarimawa village, Tofa Local Government Area of the state.

The State Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Usaini Gumel, who spoke to journalists, on Tuesday, said the kidnappers stormed the home of one Nasiru Yayaya in an attempt to kidnap him and his son, Gaddafi.

However, the son resisted, which led to a scuffle.

During the scuffle, one of the kidnappers attempted to shoot Gaddafi, but mistakenly shot their gang member instead who died immediately.

“On 16/03/2023 at about 0100hrs, a report was received that gunmen stormed the residence of one Nasiru Yahaya, Yarimawa Village, Tofa LGA, Kano State, where they kidnapped him and his son, one Gaddafi Nasiru,” the CP said.

“In the process, the son resisted. In an attempt to shoot the son, they shot their colleague, one Umar Abdullahi, Alias Danbaba who died on the spot. The father escaped.

“Also, in an attempt to whisk the son, they shot two villagers on their legs who came to offer assistance. The victims were rushed to Tofa General Hospital, and they were treated and discharged.

“In a follow-up of the investigation, the following suspects were arrested; (i) Idris Abdullahi, ‘m’, 26 years of Janguza, Tofa LGA (ii) Tukur Yusuf, ‘m’, 40 years old, of Langyal, Tofa LGA, and (iii) Ilyasu Aminu, ‘m’, 25 years old, of Gargai Village, Bebeji LGA Kano State. Investigation is in progress.”
