See how Lagos plans to host concerts after COVID-19

The Lagos State Government through the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), on Saturday, supervised the hosting of a first-of-its-kind, innovative drive-in concert in the state, organized by Lapazio Lifestyles and Entertainment Group at the Bay Lounge, Admiralty Way, Lekki.

The drive-in Concert, according to the Agency's General Manager, Dr. Dolapo Fasawe, was carefully thought of and when given the go-ahead, it was adequately supervised for strict compliance in conformity with all stipulated safety guidelines as the State government begins to ease the COVID-19 pandemic lockdown and safely reinstate the almost comatose entertainment landscape after a long break.

She said the drive-in concert event has been globally accepted as a new model for hosting safe entertainment events, and Lagos, being a prime destination of entertainment and leisure events in Africa, definitely could not be left behind in this new trend that ensures that fans connect with their favourite musicians or artistes without breaking COVID-19 safety and environmental regulations.

Fasawe added that society benefits from entertainment, and therefore it adds structure to social life. She explained that the goal was to ensure that the entertainment world can still operate in a safe and healthy environment to create lasting positive memories, as the world adjusts to the post COVID-19 lifestyle.

The General Manager of LASEPA noted that though the event was successful, there was still room for improvement as the agency plans to do a thorough evaluation of the event, and subsequently come up with a more elaborate plan for the future while extending the scheme to other relevant sectors.

While describing the landmark event as a test run for what would most likely be the new normal, Fasawe stressed that the success recorded with the event would be a win for all, and a guide for future events in the State.

She however reaffirmed that Lagos places a high premium on the lives of all its residents, thus, the need to adopt new approaches that would always ensure the safety of the citizenry.

Reports say the event had about fifty (50) vehicles in attendance parked in line with physical distancing guidelines recommended by the government, while attendees were safely seated in their vehicles enjoying the tunes of popular musician Mayorkun within marked spaces.

The entire exercise was supervised by officers of LASEPA Lekki Zonal Office, led by Yetunde Atoyebi, in line with the monitoring guidelines and mandate of the Agency.

Fasawe also confirmed that the following guidelines must be adhered to strictly to have a successful outing:

1. Attendants are encouraged to stay in their vehicles for the duration of the concert and not more than 3 at a time.

2. The use of face mask and check of temperature at entrance is a must

3. Totally compliance to social distancing at rest rooms and provision of hand sanitizers

4. There shall be not more than two persons on the stage

5. The approved time frame to be adhered to

6. Noise must not exceed the approved limit for the environment.

7. The monitoring team of the agency to be on ground to ensure compliance.
