The detained afrobeats singer, Seun Kuti, may undergo a drug test, according to a report in today's online edition of The Nation Newspaper. The news comes after Kuti spent the night in police custody after being questioned by crack detectives at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, until late yesterday evening.
After his alleged unprovoked grievous assault, on the Police Inspector, while on the 3rd Mainland Bridge, Saturday, and subsequent boastful rants about the number of cops he had slapped, sources in the NPF reportedly told The Nation correspondent that, the drug test for Kuti was part of procedures in such cases.
Three days ago, a video surfaced online showing famed artist Kuti brutally beating a Police Inspector, drawing the ire of the police and, by extension, the majority of Nigerians.
One of the people who spoke to the police about Kuti's situation reported that, ever since his arrest yesterday morning, Kuti had done nothing but smile and show no remorse for the assault.
He claimed, "He (Kuti) was actually the erring party, since he was the one who bashed the Inspector's vehicle, and rather than stopping after hitting the policeman's vehicle, he continued his journey, prompting the officer to maneuver in order to make him stop his car. Since his detention yesterday, he has shown no remorse and has just been smiling, which is not sitting well with the police officers conducting the investigation.
