Meet Young Female Traditional Ruler In Ondo Who Is Not Allowed To Have A Boyfriend Or Get Married

Culture is diverse, what is accepted by particular group of people may be seen as a taboo in another society.

While many communities in Nigeria preserve the stool of traditional ruler as an exclusive right of men, there are still few other communities who bow for women and allow them to rule the land.

One of such communities is Iboropa-Akoko in Akoko Northeast area in Ondo State who has a young woman as the traditional ruler of the land.

The Regent of Iboropa-Akoko in Ondo State, HRH Princess Tinuade Ayomikun Babalola, is a 22 year old who took over the throne in 2015.

Princess Tinuade Ayomikun Babalola ascended the throne as the traditional ruler of the land in 2015 when she was just 17 years old. Her Royal Majesty was a student of Public Administration at Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko (AAUA) when she ascended the throne as the regent of the land.

She hails from the ruling house of Oro which made it possible for her to ascend the throne shortly after the death of her father, Oba Emmanuel Ayowole Adejuyigbe, who was the King of the land.

Princess Tinuade Ayomikun Babalola was then crowned the regent of Iboropa-Akokoafter going through traditional and cultural rites that qualified her to rule the land.

The female traditional ruler had on several occasions admitted that being the regent of Iboropa-Akoko deprived her so many things, adding that she never got to do what most of her mates did.

However, the most surprising aspect of the life of the young female traditional ruler is that she is prevented from having boyfriend or getting married while still on the throne.

This is a strict tradition of Iboropa-Akoko which Princess Tinuade Ayomikun Babalola, the traditional ruler of the land has upheld.

Princess Tinuade Ayomikun Babalola made this known herself via her official Instagram account when she was responding to question by a follower during question and answer session on her Instagram story.

She explained that the tradition of the land demands that she remains celibate all through her reign, adding that it's part of the traditions of the land she has to observe.

The female traditional ruler said, “No I’m not allowed to have a boyfriend because my position demands that I be celibate throughout my reign as a regent.” She said.
