The Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), was once the darling of millions of Nigerians. Just as people today are enamored with European football league matches, NTA Newscasters were once the most popular stars in the Nigerian Galaxy.
Missing the Network News then was like missing a match between Barcelona and Real Madrid in which Leo Messi scored three spectacular goals. The legendary RONKE DARLEY, who later became Ronke Ayuba, was one of NTA's most seductive newscasters back then.
Back in the 1980s, NTA also had very rich and informative content that Nigerians looked forward to watching. Combine that with Ronke Ayuba's rosy cheeks, resonating voice, and piercing eyes, and you'll understand why many Nigerians wanted to listen to the 9.00pm Network News by force.
Ronke Ayuba began her broadcasting career in 1972 as a freelance presenter of a radio program at the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, in Ibadan, Oyo State.
She also worked as a freelancer for WNTV/WNRS before becoming an announcer and presenter in 1973. She was later transferred to NTA Lagos as a newscaster, where she rose to fame.
She dazzled the most populous black nation on the planet for so long in the early 1980s that when she left her job as a newscaster with NTA in 1985, many Nigerians were not only sad, but also shocked.
Ronke Ayuba is a name that will never be forgotten, especially in the industry where she worked.
