Three popular celebrities you probably never knew were from Ikorodu, Lagos State.

Lagos has produced numerous numbers of celebrities from the island to the mainland to other parts of Lagos state in Nigeria. They are celebrated for quite a number of reasons with entertain being a major reason. Most of them were born in the poor neighborhoods of Lagos while some where born in residential primarily parts of Lagos state like Ikorodu

In this post we will be seeing the celebrities from Ikorodu who have made a name for themselves in the entertainment industry.

1. Funke Akindele

 Funke Akindele was born on August 24, 1977, in Ikorodu, Lagos State, Nigeria. Her mother is a Medical Doctor while her father is a retired School Principal.

Funke Akindele came into the limelight after starring in popular United Nations Population Fund sponsored sitcom ‘I Need to know’, which ran from 1998 to 2002. She played the role of Bisi, a curious but highly intelligent secondary school student. The movie that brought her fame and recognition was ‘Jenifa’, which she acted in 2008.

She is married to and is blessed with four kids. She also runs a non-governmental organization known as the Jenifa Foundation, which aims at providing young people with vocational skills.

2. Ikorodu Bois

Ikorodu bois comprises 3 brothers; Babatunde Sanni, 23, Muiz Sanni,15, Malik Sanni, 10 and their cousin Fawas Aina,13. The three young boys are usually involved in the videos and their eldest brother, Babatunde Sanni, edits the videos and manages them.

The Ikorodu Bois gained notoriety for remaking scenes and trailers from famous music videos and Hollywood films. Their works includes imitation of several videos like Roddy Ricch’s ‘The box’ music video, scenes from ‘Money Heist’, trailer for the Hollywood movie ‘Extraction’ and so on. They use simple household items to create their videos and skits.

The creative efforts of The Ikorodu Bois have not gone unnoticed. 'The Professor' from Money Heist tweeted, "What an amazing job!!! Congrats!! Thanks a lot for this. You all are the very best". They have also received an invitation to the premiere of the Hollywood movie ‘Extraction’

The Ikorodu Bois have also gained over 500,000 followers on Instagram.

3. Dream catchers

They are a group of dancers which consist of seven girls and three boys. The dancers from Ikorodu first broke the internet with a dance video of them dancing to “Nowo” by DJ Spinall and Wizkid.

Rihanna shared the dance video in admiration of the young talents as she celebrated a new milestone in her career, being the first female artist to cross 2 billion worldwide streams on Apple Music. This video has helped them gain international recocognition and they now have over 50,000 followers on social media. Their sponsor and the person who has helped them get to where they are goes by the name, Seyi Oluyole. They have thanked her over social media for helping them get off the streets and make something meaningful of their lives.
