Meet Chris Okotie: The Pastor Who Divorced Twice and Ran For President Three Times

Pastor Chris Okotie of 'Household of God' church is currently trending for his recent statement about online church service being unscriptural which has sparked up reactions from many Christians including American-based Nigerian author and lawyer Reno Omokri, who replied him saying that his jheri curl hairstyle is unscriptural too.

At first, when my younger sister saw the news with just the name 'Pastor Chris', she thought it was Pastor Chris Oyakhilome of 'Christ Embassy Church' but later found out it was someone else. I was shocked when she confessed that she doesn't know Chris Okotie (Like for real? The Popular Grammarian? Are you in this Nigeria?).

Well, it's not her fault; she is just one of those 2003 babies and was probably still very young when he was popping in Nigeria.

So I did a little research on him and decided to share some facts about him for those of you like my sister who don't really know him.

Christopher Oghenebrobrie Okotie, popularly known as Pastor Chris Okotie, is a Nigerian televangelist and the founder of Household Of God Church.

He was born on 16th June 1958 in Abraka, Delta state, Nigeria and currently resides in Lagos where his church is located.

He always loved music as a young boy and even abandoned school to pursue his music career for a while.

He attended Edo college Benin city where he was a member of the music club, and studied law at University of Nigeria, Nsukka.

He also attended 'Grace Fellowship Bible School' in the United States and started his ministry thereafter.

Chris Okotie has written several books and publications in Nigerian newspapers and hosted series of events aimed at awarding unrecognized Nigerians that have contributed significantly towards building the nation.

Asides being a pastor and author, he is known for his involvement in politics as he founded a political party named Fresh Democratic Party. He ran for President of Nigeria in the 2003, 2007 and 2011 elections but lost in all.

Concerning his marriage life, he has been married twice and separated twice. In 2001, he divorced his first wife 'Tina Okotie' and remarried in 2008. However, he also got separated from his new wife 'Stephanie Henshaw' in June, 2012.

According to him, the divorce was due to 'irreconcilable differences' and was God's instruction.

Pastor Chris Okotie is known for his use of big grammar, and has always been mimicked by Nigerian entertainers including popular comedian 'AY'.
