8 Mistakes You Keep Making When Washing Your Face

Most of us ladies are too busy trying to get rid of our skin flaws that we ignore the very necessary things in our basic skincare. No matter how good your scrub, toner, or serum is, the result would not be optimal if your facial skin isn't properly cleaned.

Here are 8 mistakes you might be making when washing your face.

1. Not Removing Your Makeup Properly Before Washing Your Face

Using a makeup wipe, then going ahead to wash your face is a big skincare mistake. Makeup wipes just get rid of the exterior dirt without cleaning the skin itself. Even if you do not wear makeup, there are dirt that stick to your face that wipe can't remove.

Instead, an oil-based cleanser will break down makeup and properly cleanse your face. Then you wash your face afterwards.

2. Not Washing Your Hands Before Washing Your Face

Make sure your hands are clean before washing your face. You cannot start using a germ filled hand to rub your face and claim to be cleansing.

3. Using a Body Towel For The Face

According to experts, using the same towel for your face and body helps to spread bacteria and fungus to the face. For the this reason, you should set aside a small towel just for the face. Also, you should wash it often.

Remember to pat your face dry, and not rub it to dry it as this can cause irritation.

4. Using The Wrong Water Temperature

Hot water can strip your skin of it's natural oils, thereby removing the skin's protective barrier. This can in turn lead to over drying or over-production of sebum, as your skin would want to compensate for it's lost oils. This can cause irritation or breakout respectively. Lukewarm water is the best for an effective cleanse.

5. Leaving Your Skin Bare After Wash

To maximize absorption and help seal in moisture, it is best to apply moisturizers on your damp skin. Same applies for serums. Waiting till your skin gets dried completely will make it harder for the active ingredients to sink into your skin.

6. Overwashing Your Face

Washing any more than twice every day can irritate your skin. If you did not wear makeup, apply sunscreen or sweat during the day; you can skip cleansing. Try rinsing with trepid water instead, and give your skin a break from constant cleansing.

7. Not Rinsing Well Enough

Rinse thoroughly, no matter how much in a hurry you are. The jaw line, hairline, and nose are the most commonly neglected spots.

8. Using the Wrong Products

Use a barrier friendly cleanser. Avoid products that is too harsh, as this would strip your skin of it's barrier.
