See Who Started The Trend Of Wearing White Wedding Dress, That Nigeria Ladies Are Still Copying

See who started the trend of wearing white wedding dress, that Nigeria ladies are still copying.

Queen Victoria of England started the white wedding dress trend when she wore a white lace dress at her wedding on February 10, 1840.

Before then, brides simply wore their best dress.

Since then, White became a popular option in 1840, after the marriage of Queen Victoria to Albert of Saxe-Coburg, when Illustrations of the wedding were widely published, and many brides opted for white in accordance with the Queen's choice.

She chose to wear a white wedding dress, which was considered an unusual choice at a time when colours were more usual, made from heavy silk satin. Queen Victoria has been credited with starting the tradition of white weddings and white bridal gowns.

Victoria’s lace pattern was said to have been destroyed after work was completed on Victoria’s gown so that the intricate template could not be copied. The gown was further adorned with orange blossoms a symbol of fertility that worked, considering her eventual brood of nine children and an 18-foot-long train.

The term now also encapsulates the entire Western wedding routine, especially in the Christian religious tradition, which generally includes a ceremony during which the marriage begins, followed by a reception.

Today some Nigerian ladies are still copying this trend, mostly during the white wedding ceremony.

A trend that has been in vogue years ago, is still waxing strong.
