The act of Cross-dressing was not a normal thing in Nigeria as of 10-15 years ago.
Based on Nigeria societal values and beliefs cross-dressing was considered abnormal and presently to a larger part of the Nigeria society it is still considered abnormal.
Cross-dressing is the act of wearing items of clothes that is not commonly associated with one's sex.
However, the perception of cross-dressing as an abnormal act is gradually changing in Nigeria. Some individuals are responsible for the change in perception as they have successfully portray cross-dressing as a form of entertainment and they are making a lot of money from it.
Now if you were told 20years ago that a guy can make millions by just dressing as a girl you wouldn't have believed. But here it is happening right in front of our very own eyes. Bobrisky and his companions in the industry were able to succed because they knew how to get the attention of Nigerians.
Nigerians are always attracted to things that are not normal and that have not been seen before. Bobrisky and his fellow crossdressers understood this philosophy and they used it well to their advantage.
Nigerians knowingly or unknowingly develop interest in a person who is controversial and always on the news because of one social media drama or the other, or saying things that are opposite to the general values and beliefs of the Nigeria society.
Maximizing the above techniques I mentioned, Bobrisky, Jay Boogie and others were able to build a brand for themselves and also gather a lot of followers on Instagram.
As they are gathering their followers they make sure to always give them what they want to see; pictures, videos, giveaways, social media scandals/dramas etc.
Being on the news Everytime and having a lot of people engaging in their social media content makes them qualified to become brand ambassadors and social media influencers, which is how they make most of their money.
Companies and business are always looking for social media influencers who always have people engaging in their content. It doesn't matter whether you insult them or not on their social media post. What matters is that you engaged on their post.
Bobrisky, Jay Boogie and others understood these things and they were able to craft a multi-million naira business niche from cross-dressing.
Whatever way you look at it Bobrisky Jay Boogie will continue to make millions from cross-dressing because they have portray it as a form of entertainment and Nigerians will always be there to engage their social media content.
