Carrot (Daucus Carota) is a root vegetable usually orange in colour but,red, yellow, purple and white carrots are also available. Carrots are good sources of vitamin A and C, manganese, potassium, dietary fiber and copper. They also contain vitamin E in small amount as well as vitamin B complex. Carrot is a biennial plant with many health benefits some of these benefits are;
. Delays Ageing: Carrots are rich in beta carotene which acts as an antioxidant to cell damage done to the body through regular metabolism. It helps slow down the aging of cells.
. Improvement of Vision: Carrots are rich in beta carotene which is converted into vitamin A in the liver. This vitamin A is transformed in the retina to rhodospin,a purple pigment necessary for night vision.
. Promotion of Healthier Skin: Vitamin A and antioxidant present in carrots protect the skin from sun damage. Deficiencies of vitamin A causes dryness of the skin, hair and nails. Vitamin A prevent premature wrinkling, acne, pigmentation, uneven skin tone and blemishes.
. Prevention of Stroke: People who eat more than six carrots a week are less likely to suffer a stroke than those who eat only one carrot a month or less.
Although carrots have a lot of benefits,it is not allowed to eat excess of it as it can lead to allergies. So it is best when eaten in moderation. Make a list today and add carrots to your daily purchase of food items. You shouldn't limit the eating of carrots to only when you eat fried rice. It can be mixed with other delicacies.
