8 Natural Scents That Repel Mosquitoes

Mosquitoes can be really annoying and they just don't know when to stop. If you are not naturally inclined to using mosquito fleets, then natural mosquito repellents may appeal to you. According to Healthline, here are some natural repellents that work best to prevent mosquitoes.

1. Lavender - Lavender flowers produce a fragrance and oil that drives away mosquitoes. Lavender has analgesic, antifungal and antiseptic qualities that dispel mosquitoes. This also implies that in addition to preventing mosquito bites, it calms and soothes the skin. No irritation.

2. Cinnamon oil - Cinnamon is more than just a healthful condiment for cooking. Cinnamon oil can also kill off mosquito eggs. You can create cinnamon oil by grinding cinnamon sticks and mixing with (suitably) almond oil and some water. Spray in desired places and around your home. Be careful also because concentrated doses can irritate your skin.

3. Lemon eucalyptus oil - Lemon eucalyptus oil is a well-known natural repellent for insects and mosquitoes. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has approved it as an effective ingredient in driving away mosquitoes.

4. Peppermint - Minty fragrances are unappealing to mosquito's keen senses. The mere presence alone can ward off mosquitoes sometimes. Peppermint oil is also effective in relieving bug bites.

5. Thyme oil - Thyme oil is one of the best natural mosquito repellents there is. Most suitable when you are outdoors. Get some thyme leaves, just enough, and burn them like a campfire. It provides protection up to 91 percent according to research.

6. Soybean oil - According to a study in a laboratory in University of Florida, soybean based products can provide long-lasting protection from mosquitoes.

7. Garlic - Garlic's active ingredient, allicin, drives away mosquitoes. It has been an age-old mosquito repellent. Cut garlic cloves and scatter them around your house or combine with essential oil to make a repellent spray.

8. Tea tree oil - Tea tree oil is tested and trusted for chasing away annoying insects like bushflies, sunflies and mosquitoes. The oil is also known for its antiseptic, antimicrobial, and anti-inflammatory properties.
