List of Foods that help Whiten the Teeth

It is everyone's dream to have white teeth and a bright smile.

However, external factors such as tea and smoking cause teeth to lose their whiteness. Oral and dental health specialist Asli Tapan gave information about how to whiten teeth naturally through some foods.

- Strawberry

Known for its beautiful taste and aroma, this fruit prevents the formation of stains on the teeth. However, the acid and sugar in strawberries can damage tooth enamel. For this reason, it is recommended to drink water or rinse your mouth after eating.

- Watermelon

Malic acid is found in greater quantities in watermelon than in strawberries. The malic acid in your mouth may help to whiten your teeth and increase saliva production.

Watermelon's fibrous texture is also said to clean your teeth, which helps remove stains. However, there is no scientific evidence to support this claim.

- Pineapple

Pellicle, or a coating of salivary proteins, protects your teeth. The pellicle layer protects your teeth while also absorbing food colours. This may cause stains.

Your pellicle layer also serves as a surface for bacteria to adhere to. Plaque and tooth discolouration can result if germs accumulate.

Pineapple, on the other hand, has the ability to dissolve pellicle naturally. Bromelain is a proteolytic enzyme found in it. Proteins, particularly those in your pellicle layer, can be broken down by proteolytic enzymes.

- Papaya

A proteolytic enzyme is found in papaya, just as it is in pineapple.

Papain is the enzyme found in papaya. It also damages your pellicle layer by breaking down protein. This aids in the removal of stains and the prevention of plaque formation.

- Milk

Milk's lactic acid has the potential to brighten your enamel. It's also claimed to increase saliva production, which can help wash cavity-causing bacteria away.

Casein, a protein found in milk, also helps to avoid discoloration. Casein aids in the recruitment of calcium phosphates, which aid in the healing of cavities and the prevention of plaque buildup.

According to a 2014 study, casein binds to polyphenols in tea, preventing tannins from clinging to teeth and coloring them. Lactic acid and casein are found in other dairy foods such as cheese and yogurt, and they may have a similar impact.

- An orange

Natural toothpaste is obtained from the peel of this fruit. It is useful to consume this fruit several times a week.

- Apple vinegar percent and lemon juice

These natural products, which are useful in whitening teeth, can accelerate the formation of caries by damaging tooth enamel when used frequently. For this reason, it should be used with caution.

The healthiest whitening products are fibrous products. It plays an important role in oral and dental health by cleaning teeth from bacteria that cause stains. These are apples, carrots, cauliflower and pears.

When it comes to teeth whitening, how long does it take?

It's unclear how long certain foods take to whiten teeth. There hasn't been any research done on the predicted timeline. Natural therapies, on the other hand, generally take longer than commercial products.

It also depends on the color of your teeth when you first got them. It could take longer to observe effects if your teeth are substantially discolored. The same is true if you consume a lot of staining meals.
