How To Make Nutritious And Healthy Hibiscus Tea Without Sugar

Hibiscus tea, popularly known as Zobo is a popular West African drink made by boiling hibiscus leaves in hot water to get the dark red colour, and unique flavor loved by many. Zobo is a very healthy drink because of the amount of antioxidants present in the leaves which helps the body in detoxifying and rejuvenating. The addition of sugar however has made it unsuitable to a large group of people who have certain health conditions, and that is why this recipe of the drink using dates is better for consumption.

You will need the following;

1. Zobo leaves

2. Ginger

3. Pineapple

4. Dates

5. Cloves

6. Water

1. The first thing you need to do is to clean your zobo leaves, and remove every dirt that might be in it. Wash your cloves and dates.

2. Slice your pineapple, ginger and cloves separately and blend them till you get a smooth consistency.

3. Depending on the amount of Zobo leaves you have, pour it into a pot, and add water just to cover the leaves, and put it on fire.

4. Immediately, add your ginger and cloves to the leaves in the pot and allow to boil till the reddish coloration starts to show.

5. Remove from fire, allow to cool, then filter the water from the leaves.

6. Filter your blended pineapple and dates and add to your filtrate. You can then refrigerate and serve when chill.
