Ewedu, known as jute leaf and scientifically known as Corchorus olitorius is found in the tropic and subtropical region of the world like Africa and is one of the major vegetables in Nigeria. It is especially popular among the Yoruba-speaking people of Southwestern Nigeria, among whom it constitutes a major soup. It is often consumed alone or combined with another special delicacy of the Yoruba people known as Gbegiri, with the combination of the two traditionally called "abula". It is usually served with popular local swallow or morsel-like foods such as amala, eba, fufu, semo, and tuwo.
