Stop Throwing Away Leftover Yam, Learn How To Turn It Into A Delicious Snack In These Easy Steps.

Yam, a plant whose species falls in the genus Dioscorea is a plant cultivated for the consumption of its starchy tubers in many temperate and tropical regions, especially in Africa, South America and the Caribbean, Asia, and Oceania.

The tubers themselves, which are known as "yams", come in a variety of forms owing to numerous cultivars and related species.

Yams are a primary agricultural and culturally important commodity in West Africa, where over 95% of the world's yam crop is harvested. Yams is very important for survival in these regions.

Yams must be cooked to be safely eaten, because various natural substances in yams can cause illness if consumed raw. The most common cooking methods in Nigeria are by boiling, frying or roasting.

Among the Igbo people of Nigeria, boiled yam can be pounded with a traditional mortar and pestle to create a thick, starchy paste known as (pounded yam) or fufu which is eaten with traditional soup such as egusi and native soup. They can also be prepared with pumpkin leaf, palm oil and other ingredients. This is known as porridge yam.

Most times, the Yam can be boiled and eaten with palm oil as sauce. The carbohydrates in Yam helps the body stay strong and gives us energy.

Most people don't know that left over boiled yams can actually be converted into a snack rather than being throwing away. Below I'd be showing you how you can convert your boiled yam to a delicious snack.

Firstly you need these ingredients.

Eggs

Spring Onions

Milk

Boiled yams

Pepper

Salt

Breadcrumbs

Ginger

Vegetable Oil

First step.

If you're not making use of leftovers, them you have to boil your yam. Kindly slice your yam, cut it into chunks and put it into a clean pot container water. Add salt to taste and allow it to boil till it gets soft.

Get a greater or a grinder and mash the yam into powder. Mortar pounding is not allowed as it would give it a sticky nature.

Add your pepper, salt, ginger, milk, spring onions and some eggs into the mashed yam.

Mix the mashed yam and the ingredients together thoroughly. Roll the mixture into balls.

Coat the yam balls with egg.

And then coat with the breadcrumbs.

Get a frying pan and put your Vegetable Oil into it. Fry the yam balls until they turn golden brown and make sure you turn them so they're evenly done.

You can serve hot with a chilled drink amd in this case, I'd recommend Pepsi.

Now you've learnt, stop throwing away your leftover boiled yams and start putting them to good yours.
