5 Common Foods You Don't Know That Are Very Harmful To Your Kidney
Studies and research has shown that what we consume significantly affects us, either positively or negatively. We are what we consume. Our lifestyle which includes dieting affects our wellbeing. About 80% or more of all the diseases of man is cause by wrong dieting formulae. Our inability to learn and abide to certain dietary instructions given by dietitians has affected our wellbeing in no small ways. People will always have one excuse or the other for breaking certain dietary instructions. Excessive consumption of certain foods are also detrimental to health and wellbeing, e.g a man eating 10 eggs at a go in the name of enjoyment - this attitude is very predominant in Nigeria. There are certain common foods we consume on daily basis but aren't aware of their detrimental effect on our kidney functionality.
Below are the list of five foods we interact with on daily basis but have some negative impact on our kidney, especially to those with preexisting kidney challenges:
Brown rice is a whole grain that contain a higher phosphorus and potassium contents when compare to it's white rice counterpart.
A cooked cup of white rice contains 54 milligram of potassium and 69 milligram of phosphorus when compare to its brown rice counterpart with 154 milligram of potassium and 150 milligram of phosphorus.
Because brown rice contain a high content of potassium and phosphorus, you may probably need to portion-control it before consumption. Bulgur, white rice and buckwheats can be good options to use.
As touching high potassium content, bananas are one of a kind. About 422mg of potassium is supplied. Though they are low in sodium.
It will be impossible to maintain your intake level of potassium to 2000mg if you eat banana daily. Pineapple can be good alternative for those who love sweet and tasty fruits as it kidney friendly.
Milk or dairy product.
As touching nutrients such as vitamins and proteins , dairy products are well endowed. They are a very good source of potassium and phosphorus as well.
A whole milk of 240 milliliter or a cup contains 222 milligram of phosphorus with 349 milligram of potassium.
The Consumption of plenty milk, dairy products with other foods rich in phosphorus can be very dangerous to the health of bones in those with kidney diseases. This statement may sound contradictory to what you are used to knowing that milk, and dairy product are good for muscle and healthy bones, but that's the reality. When a kidney is damaged, too much consumption of phosphorus can result to the build up of same in the blood, pulling the calcium in your bone. This makes weak and thin bones over time, hence increasing the rate of bone fracture and breakage.
Almond milk and enriched rice milk can be good alternative to avoid kidney diseases.
Oranges even though arguably contains potassium in rich quantities. An orange of about 148 grams( large orange) contents 334 milligram of potassium. Apples, grapes,cranberries are options to consider.
Long before now processed meat has been considered unhealthy and responsible for many chronic diseases. This is due to the preservatives used.
Sausage, hot dogs, pepperoni, bacon, pepperoni, Jerky are some examples of processed meats.
