Learn How To Make The Following Special Dough Products

The following snacks are worth learning as they are not, one of those common snacks you see in the markets everyday. These are the dough products am advising you to learn:

Swiss Buns

Ingredients:

Flour (6 milk cups), yeast (3 teaspoons), milk/water (enough to mix), eggs (3), butter/margarine (3 tablespoons), sugar (6 tablespoons).

Procedure:

Sieve the flour into a bowl. Pour yeast on a separate bowl, sprinkle little flour on it, cover with a cloth and keep in a warm place to ferment. After fermentation, make a well in the center of the flour, add beaten eggs, butter /margarine, and sugar. Knead very well as you add the fermented yeast. Ensure the yeast is elastic and smooth. Keep it covered and allow to rise. After the first rise, knead again and mould into round pieces, then into 10cm length. Place on a greased baking tray, cover with a cloth and allow to rise. Bake in an oven for 20 minutes. When it is cool, glaze with water icing.

Note: water icing is icing sugar mixed with water and colour.

Hot Cross Buns

Ingredients:

Flour (4 milk cups), yeast (2 teaspoons), milk/water (enough to mix), eggs (2), butter/margarine (2 tablespoons), sugar (4 tablespoons), dried fruits(1 milk tin currants and sultanas), mixed spices (half milk tin).

Procedure:

Sieve the flour into a bowl. Pour yeast on a separate bowl, sprinkle little flour on it, cover with a cloth and keep in a warm place to ferment. After fermentation, make a well in the center of the flour, add beaten eggs, butter /margarine, and sugar. Knead very well as you add the fermented yeast. Ensure the yeast is elastic and smooth. Keep it covered and allow to rise. After the first rise, knead again and add your washed dried fruits (currants and sultanas 1 milk tin), mixed spices (half milk tin). Knead together very well and cut them round into balls and make a cross with the back of a knife or mix a light mixture of water and flour and pipe it on the crosses. place on a greased baking tray, cover with a cloth and allow to rise. Bake in an oven for 15-20 minutes.

Chelsea Buns

Ingredients:

Flour (2 milk cups), yeast (1 teaspoons), milk/water (enough to mix), eggs (1), butter/margarine (1 tablespoons), sugar (2 tablespoons).

Procedure:

Sieve the flour into a bowl. Pour yeast on a separate bowl, sprinkle little flour on it, cover with a cloth and keep in a warm place to ferment. After fermentation, make a well in the center of the flour, add beaten eggs, butter /margarine, and sugar. Knead very well as you add the fermented yeast. Ensure the yeast is elastic and smooth. Keep it covered and allow to rise. After the first rise, knead again and roll into a large square and brush with a melted butter/margarine, cut into slices across the roll 3cm wide, place on a greased baking tray with deep sides, cover and allow to rise. Complete just as you did with fruit buns and bake for 20 -25 minutes.


Do not consider these things difficult because practice makes perfect. You will definitely be glad you learnt these.
