Many people are usually interested in eating only the flashy part of a fruit, but research has shown that some fruits have seeds that are rich in beneficial nutrients, and consuming them together with the seeds offers amazing health benefits. However, it should be noted that not every fruit possess healthy seeds. Fruits like mango, cherries, plum, apricot, and others have poisonous seeds which should never be consumed.
Below are four popular fruits that have nutritious seeds.
1. Almond fruit.
Almond is a fruit that doesn't need much introduction. It is widely grown in Nigeria and most people refer to it as fruit. The fruit is best consumed when ripe because unripe almond is bitter. However, almond nut which is the seed possess outstanding health benefits. Research has shown that consuming this nut helps to lower blood pressure and sugar level. Furthermore, almond nut is an excellent source of healthy fats, protein, fiber, magnesium, and vitamin E, it also helps in weight loss. The seed is cracked after eating the fruit to obtain the edible nut.
Guava is no doubt many people's favorite. Research has shown that Guava seeds have laxative properties, which helps to improve bowel movement. However, it's advisable to chew guava seeds before swallowing to avoid other health issues.
Pawpaw is loved by both young and old because of its taste and outstanding health benefits. Research has shown that pawpaw seeds are rich in polyphenols and flavonoids, which acts as antioxidants. They're also high in fiber, which helps to relieve constipation. It's advisable to eat them along with the fruit. But sadly, many people are fond of throwing pawpaw seeds away.
Watermelon is notable for its rich water content, making it one of the most refreshing fruits out there. Watermelon seeds are packed with nutrients like copper, magnesium, potassium, etc. They also contain amino acids and proteins, which improves the body's metabolism. This is why you should eat them along with the fruit.
