Cherry is definitely one of the most loved and consumed food here in Nigeria. But sadly, most people are not aware of this fruit's real name.
The real name of Cherry is "African Star Apple", a tropical fruit that is only available in the autumn season. In Nigerian, the fruit is called “Agwaluma" by the Hausas and Yorubas, while the Igbos call it “Udara" as well.
2. Icheku or Awin.
This is one of the best seeds in the world. Little children and adults like it a lot. But only a few people know the actual real name of this popular fruit.
The actual English name of it is "Black velvet tamarind", popularly known as Awin in Yoruba, Icheku in Igbo and Tsamiyar kurm in Hausa. It is a seasonal fruit with an orange pulp that has a sweet taste.
3. Hausa groundnut or ofio.
This is a very popular Nigerian delicacy that can be gotten in almost everywhere. It is cultivated in the northern part of the country that's why it is popularly known as Hausa groundnut.
However, the real name of this healthy nut or fruit is "Tiger nuts". It is also popularly in other parts of the world, especially in Asia. And it was just recently that the English name "tiger nuts" started getting popular.
