It is said that the youthful days are the best days of one's life. One reason for this is the extraordinary activeness seen in individuals of such age brackets. The vigour for this activeness soon declines as old age emerges, up till a time when life becomes more of sedentary.
There are foods not advisable for such periods of a lifetime. One of them is pork meat. Youths may have it as they like and scale through but in the elderly, the chances of scaling through are quite thin as it could incur a lot of side effects.
The reason is, generally, red meats undoubtedly are not free from saturated fats but the levels of this kind of fats seen in pork is higher. Saturated fats are the sources of bad cholesterol which is one of the major causes of heart diseases.
Some life threatening conditions like atherosclerosis could result from intoxication with bad cholesterol. This medical condition occurs when a blood vessel is blocked by a plaque caused by fat. It blocks or disturbs the flow of blood. This is one of the causes of stroke particularly when an artery supplying a part of the brain is blocked. Myocardial infarction, a condition whereby a muscle of the heart dies as a result of starvation of oxygen and nutrients from blood also can occur when an artery supplying such a muscle of the heart is blocked.
Youths may scale through because they are still active as much physical activities would help burn some of these fats but in the elderly, it could be seen that vigour has declined so they are more likely to have such fats accumulated.
Therefore, it's consumption should be minimized if one can't stop it entirely. There are some healthy sources of protein advised for elders. A good example of them is the oily fishes. They contain Omega 3 fatty acids needed for healthy heart, healthy brain, healthy eyesight etc. Examples of fishes containing them includes salmon, mackerel, tilapia.
