500g boneless chicken breasts, thinly sliced

1 tablespoon smoked paprika

1 tablespoon cumin

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

2 tablespoons olive oil

2 tablespoons lemon juice

4-6 pita bread or flatbread

Shredded lettuce

Sliced tomatoes

Sliced onions

Garlic sauce

Tahini sauce

Hot sauce (optional)

In a large bowl, combine the sliced chicken with smoked paprika, cumin, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Add olive oil and lemon juice and mix well. Cover the bowl with cling wrap and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 2 hours or overnight.

Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

Spread the marinated chicken on a baking tray and bake for 20-25 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and slightly browned.

Heat the pita bread or flatbread in the oven or on a pan until warm and slightly crispy.

To assemble the shawarma, spread garlic sauce and tahini sauce on the warm pita bread. Add the cooked chicken, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes, sliced onions, and pickles. Drizzle hot sauce (optional) on top.

Roll the pita bread tightly into a cone shape, enclosing the fillings. Wrap it in foil or parchment paper to hold its shape.

Serve the homemade shawarma hot and enjoy!
