Check out why it is not advisable to eat pork

There are several cultures that do not eat that meat because they consider it “unclean”, most noteably the Jews and the Muslims, although many cultures from the same region hold this view. Exactly why this is the case is a matter of some debate, but I suspect that it’s because pork is prone to contamination, especially in the sort of environment the Middle East has.

Think about it. Have you ever seen pork served rare? Beef is served rare constantly, but neither pork nor chicken are. It’s just too dangerous to do so.

If I had to guess, I’d say the difference is that pigs are omnivores. Their internal systems are fairly similar to that of humans, and they eat a wide variety of foods. As opposed to grazing animals like cows and sheep. All of which means that pork is much more susceptible to pathogens. Pathogens which can be killed by thoroughly cooking the meat. But which will infect you if you’re not careful.

And when I say that pigs eat a wide variety of foods, I mean that they will literally eat human feces if it is fed to them.

This isn’t as much of a problem today. Modern farms typically feed pigs a vegetarian diet. But historically this wasn’t the case.
