2 simple ways to make Shawarma

Shawarma is a Middle Eastern sandwich-like wrap of shaved lamb, goat, chicken, turkey, beef, or a mixture of these. Shawarma is made-up of meat cut into thin slices,stacked in a cone-like shape and roasted on a slowly-turning vertical rotisserie or spit. Shawarma is one of the world's most popular street food.

In Africa, Sharwarma is created using sweet,savory spices which comes together to give a marinated slice of meat. All you need is to just relax,read and understand as every step counts in making Shawarma

Method of Preparation 1

Ingredients

Chicken breasts

Chicken Thighs

Shawarma bread(either pita bread/flour tortilla wraps)

Cabbage

Medium sized Carrots

large Cucumber

Tomatoes

Medium sized Onions

Ketchup

Mayonnaise

Tablespoon Vegetable /olive oil(for stir frying)

Your Chicken must be deboned/boneless. For your Shawarma bread,if you have the listed bread you can use it and if you don't you can use sliced bread or Agege bread. Make sure your vegetables are cut into thin strips

For the Marinade

1 teaspoon of thyme

2 teaspoon curry

1 teaspoon of onion powder/2 teaspoons of finely chopped onions

1 teaspoon of garlic powder/2 teaspoons of finely chopped garlic

1 large chicken stock cube/bouillon cube(crushed into powder)

1/2 teaspoon of black pepper

Chilli pepper to taste

Salt to taste(optional)

1 Tablespoon of Vegetable /Olive oil

Preparation

Wash and cut the vegetables and Chicken into thin strip and set aside. Place the chicken strips into a bowl, add the marinade and mix thoroughly until well incorporated. Then cover and store in the fridge for 2-24 hours(The longer the meat marinades,the better it tastes). In a pan, heat up a tablespoonful of oil. Add the marinated chicken/beef & stir fry until juicy and brown. Scoop unto a plate and set aside.

Mix some mayonnaise and ketchup(Mayo-Ketchup)together. Place a Shawarma bread on a clean flat surface,spread your "Mayo-Ketchup" and fill with your vegetables.

Fold the bread and roll to form a Shawarma wrap. Your Shawarma is ready

Method 2

Ingredients

Chicken breasts(deboned or boneless)

Chicken thighs/laps(deboned or boneless)

Shawarma bread (pita bread or tortilla wraps)

Small cabbage

Medium sized carrots (grated or cut into thin strips)

1 large cucumber (cut into thin strips and circles)

2 big tomatoes (cut into thin strips)

1 medium sized onion (cut into thin strips)

Ketchup

Mayonnaise

Vegetable or olive oil (for frying)

Foil paper

For the Marinade 

1 Teaspoon of thyme

2 teaspoons of curry

1 teaspoon of onion powder

1 large chicken seasoning cube

1/2 teaspoon of black pepper

Salt and chilli pepper (to taste)

1 teaspoon of vegetable or olive oil

Preparation

Cut the chicken into thin strips, place in a bowl, mix in the marinade properly with the chicken. Cover and leave to marinate for 2 -24hours depending on the amount of time you have. In a pan, heat two table spoons of oil, add the marinated chicken and stir fry until golden brown. Set aside and leave it to rest.

Get your flat bread and place on foil paper on a clean, flat surface. You can double the bread if you want. Mix your ketchup and mayonnaise "Mayo-Ketchup"together and spread on the bread. Place your vegetables on the bread and spread the chicken on top. Spread extra "Mayo-Ketchup"on top and sprinkle on a little dry pepper.

Roll the wrap gently and wrap with your foil paper. Place the wrap in the oven/sandwich maker and let it grill for 5 minutes or you can place the wrap in a dry frying pan and let it heat up for 5 minutes.
