What Women Should know About Pelvic Inflammatory Diseases (P.I.D.)

The Pelvic Inflammatory Disease is an inflammation female upper reproductive tract, which includes the structures of the uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes. P.I.D is caused by Sexually Transmitted Diseases, Pelvic surgery etc.There are many types of infections associated with P.I.D.

However, the most common P.I.D are Chlamydia and gonorrhea.The treatment involves antibiotics or in extreme cases, surgery may be necessary.


Below are the symptoms of P.I.D

- Pain in the lower abdomen and pelvic regions.

- Pain when passing urine

- Irregular menstruation

- Vagina discharge with foul odour becomes excessive

- Lower back pain

- fever etc.

Risk factors

Younger age: young women are more susceptible to contract Sexually Transmitted Diseases. This may be as a result of douching or some biological factors.

Preventive measures : contraceptives or barrier methods such as condoms and some oral contraceptives can reduce the risks of Pelvic Inflammatory Disease.

It is worthy of note that if P.I.D is not properly treated,it could cause infertility.
